Graham Barker - new High Sheriff
 
Graham Barker (Law, Van Mildert, 1977-80) was sworn in as the new High Sheriff of Berkshire on 27 March. Graham was appointed to the role by the Queen during a meeting of the Privy Council at Buckingham Palace. The ceremony at Reading Crown Court was presided over by Lord Hughes of Ombersley (Law, Van Mildert, 1966-69).

Jasper Cox (Economics, St Cuthbert's Society, 2008-11); Tom Pain (Accounting & Finance, John Snow, 2005-08 and Finance & Investment, Ustinov, 2008-09) and Peter Rawlinson (Business Finance, John Snow, 2004-08) have recently launched My Swft, a free travel concierge service over WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Kishva Ambigapathy (Politics, Ustinov, 2015-17) is the outgoing Chairman of the Commonwealth Youth Council and met with HRH Prince Harry and UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, to discuss the issues affecting the Commonwealth's young people.

Joyce Bergvelt (Chinese, Mary’s, 1984-88) published her first book in English. Lord of Formosa, a historical novel closely based on actual events, and tells the little-known story of seventeenth-century Taiwan under Dutch rule.

Dr David A Cross (Psychology, University College, 1970-73) has recently published Public Sculpture of Lancashire and Cumbria in the PMSA series with Liverpool University Press.

Carla Denyer (Mechanical Engineering, St Chad’s, 2005-09) is an elected city councillor in Bristol (Clifton Down ward, Green Party, elected May 2015), and a member of the University of Bristol Court. Through the two connected roles she recently celebrated a small victory – in response to a fossil fuel divestment campaign at Bristol University which she was heavily involved in, the university made a full divestment commitment last month.

Jacquetta Gomes (Economic History & Sociology, St Aidan’s, 1972-75) has been included in a Womens Firsts list under 2014 as Buddhist Fire Chaplain. 

Julian Harrison (Music, Collingwood, 1988-91) has published A Year in Melancholia.

Jeannette Ng (English & History, Grey, 2004-08) has been nominated for the Campbell Award - one of the Oscars of SciFi and Fantasy writing.

Flo Perry (Chemistry, Collingwood, 2010-14) illustrated the book The Girls' Guide to Growing Up Great: Changing Bodies, Periods, Relationships, Life Online.

Ben Rowarth (Music, University, 2010-13) has been commissioned by the London Festival of Church Music to compose a new work, with performances in London and Durham - Tears of a Lover.
