Wednesday 25 September

SOLD OUT

Wednesday 25 September 2019, 1.00-5.00pm

Exclusive visit to the University’s little-known Art Store in The College, hosted by the University’s Curator of Western Art, Alix Collingwood-Swinburn.

Self-guided tour of Durham Cathedral’s Open Treasure exhibition.

Two talks showcasing some of the University’s latest research:

Dr Noura Al-Moubayed, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, talks about some of the most important technologies of the information age: machine learning, natural language processing, and optimisation.

Dr David Petts, Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology, talks about the new Belief in the North East community archaeology project.

The event will take place in and around The College and Cathedral. We will meet at the visitor desk in the Cathedral and split into groups to visit the Art Store. After the tours, we will take tea and scones in Prior’s Hall on the southern side of the Cathedral, before enjoying talks by Dr Al-Moubayed and Dr Petts.

This event is a celebration of Durham University legacy donors and in-memory donors and it is open to all supporters and friends, giving an opportunity to engage with Durham’s inspiring research and collections.

RSVP by Friday 20 September at event.three@durham.ac.uk or on 0191 334 9138, giving your guest’s name and any special access or dietary requirements. Places are limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis. There is disabled access to the Open Treasure exhibition and Prior’s Hall (the venue for refreshments and talks).
