For this online panel we will be focusing on East Asia, its significance in the global market and the impact of Covid-19 on business. We will cover topics such as the importance of digitisation, the humanisation of employees, and designing for resilience. We will be joined by three Durham alumni and prominent figures in the East Asian business world, along with our panel chair - Professor Kiran Fernandes (Professor of Operations Management/ Associate Dean for Internationalisation) of Durham University Business School.

James Riley, CEO, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (University College, Geography, 1982)
A Chartered Accountant and investment banker, James Has joined the Jardine Matheson Group in 1993 and was its Finance Director between 2005 to 2016. He has been the Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group since 2016. He was a non-executive director of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation from 2012 to 2016 and has been the Chairman of the Royal Geographical Society in Hong Kong for 20 years. James is a valued member of the Durham Inspired Campaign Board.
Chloé Reuter, Founding Partner, Gusto Luxe (Hild Bede, Chinese Studies, 2000)
Chloé is Founding Partner of Gusto Luxe, a market leader in integrated digital marketing solutions helping luxury brands connect with Asian consumers. The company has 120 full-time staff and is headquartered in Shanghai, with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and London. Chloé lives with her family in Shanghai. Before setting up her own business she worked as a TV journalist in Tokyo for Bloomberg and Reuters.
Alex Hu, MD at Pacific Resources Trading (Graduate Society, MBA, 2001)
Alex was a British Chevening Scholar at Durham. He has 30 years of experience in natural resources industries having previously worked for Shell China Ltd and the CITIC Group in commodity trading of base metals, precious metals, petroleum products, iron ore and associated future trading including hedging and derivatives. He is experienced in project management, structured finance, business development, risk management and M&A.
