Durham University is home to a substantial collection of 20th century and 21st century artworks representing British and European Modernism, Pop Art, regional industrial art and contemporary emerging practice. Although the collection features drawings, paintings, installations and sculpture, print-based artworks are a core strength, offering insight into some of the fundamental techniques used by artists including woodcut, lithograph, screenprint and digital printing. Currently without a permanent gallery, the collection is displayed across the University and is increasingly being utilised in teaching, exhibitions and arts projects across the city and nationally.
Join us as we talk to Alix Collingwood-Swinburn, our Curator of Western Art, to find out more about the University’s collection of modern and contemporary art, our current projects and future plans for the collection.
