Calling Archaeology Alumni from 1955 - 1990

In 2019 the Department of Archaeology at Durham is celebrating Professor Dame Rosemary Cramp’s 90th birthday and marking over 60 years of outstanding archaeological research and practice at Durham University. In May we will be holding an alumni event to welcome back staff and students in celebration of Rosemary’s long and continued contribution to our department and to archaeology as a discipline and profession in the UK.

We would like to reconnect with as many of our alumni as possible from these years. Some of you will have studied archaeology as part of your History and English degrees, and others will have joined Durham to study single honours archaeology, perhaps working with Professor Cramp on her seminal excavations at Monkwearmouth and Jarrow in the north-east of England and The Hirsel in southern Scotland. We are seeking reminiscences, comments and photographs from these years, relating to department events, field visits and excavations. We are interested in capturing memories of the department relating to all staff, but particularly those involving Professor Cramp and her long association with the department. We hope to use these images and comments to build a website to celebrate the department and Rosemary’s contribution. We’d also like to stay in touch with as many alumni as possible and hear about your lives and careers after studies at Durham and keep you in touch with how our department continues to grow and flourish.

If you would like to hear more about our celebration with Professor Cramp in 2019 and share your stories and pictures from your time with Archaeology at Durham then we would love to hear from you as soon as possible. Please email our alumni contact Mrs Joanne Patterson; send us a letter c/o Mrs J Patterson, Department of Archaeology, Durham University, South Road, Durham, DH1 3LE; or ring us on +44(0) 191 334 1144 and ask to speak to Mrs Patterson in the first instance.
