Dr Ben Medlock MBE (St John’s College / Computer Science / 2002) is the Co-Founder of SwiftKey, the company behind the intelligent typing system for smartphones which uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to predict the user’s next word and correct spelling mistakes. Following his undergraduate degree at Durham and a PhD at Cambridge University, Ben launched the company in 2010 with a fellow Cambridge graduate. SwiftKey become the global best-selling app on Android and the software is preinstalled on more than 300 million mobile devices worldwide. It won "most innovative mobile app" at the 2012 GSMA awards, and the company was ranked as the world's 6th most innovative mobile business by Fast Company. It was acquired by tech giant Microsoft in 2016.
