Currently we have over 100 applicants for the Leadership Programme, all looking for mentors who can assist them in their personal development and into their careers.
Students on the programme are from array a broad range of various academic disciplines. We are specifically looking for mentors who are ideally leaders in their industry who can mentor a student.

We would need the mentor to sign a mentoring agreement and commit to make one meeting/event dinner in London (draft date: 7 November), where they would meet their mentee and other mentors/DARO staff etc.
The Leadership Programme is a three-pronged mentoring and personal development that gives students exclusive access to personalised one-to-one mentoring from Durham University alumni, a bespoke Speaker Series, and free resources and training on leadership theory and practice.
An alumnus’s involvement in the Programme includes a face-to-face meeting in London with their student mentee and other Durham alumni; sustained contact with mentee as relationship develops; and the option of hosting a talk at Durham as part of the Programme’s Speaker Series.
Mentoring
At the heart of the Leadership programme is a mentor/mentee relationship whereby a Durham student leader is matched to an outstanding Durham alumnus. Alumni mentors give personalised support and guidance during a student’s time at Durham, career advice and access to networking and career opportunities.
Current mentors on the Programme include Mark Wilkinson, SVP, International Marketing and A&R, Universal Music; Clare Cameron, Senior Civil Service Operations Directorate, Ministry of Defence; Commodore Andrew Burns, Royal Navy; Alex Macqueen, Actor; Phil Marshall, Head of Production, Sky Sports; and George Aza-Selinger, Head of World Productions Scotland.
Speaker Series
Part of the Programme is our Speaker Series, where Durham alumni and mentors host talks about their experience of leadership both at Durham University and during their careers.
Our Speaker Series alumni to date have included Robin Fieth, Chief Executive of the Building Societies Association; Steven Greenhalgh, UK Rights Director for Samuel French; Nicola Candlish, General Manager of British Youth Opera; James Johnson, Retired Banking and Finance Partner for Clifford Chance; and Guy Richardson, Founder and CEO of Eiger Performance.
Leadership training
The Leadership Programme provides bespoke and personal leadership training in partnership with accredited trainers and mediators. Training includes a weekend with a uniformed service, mediation and confliction resolution, team building activities and understanding the role of the Leader within the University.
