What was the most valuable lesson you learnt whilst at Durham? That on the night of a Dress Rehearsal you are not going to sleep early. What are your fondest memories of Durham?I have to express my ambition to create Durham University Eurovision Society as one of the finest memories, and those few years saw something arguably so silly become one of the most successful societies in the whole of the University. We even got a shoutout on the live broadcast of the Eurovision Final spawning similar groups around the country. It was fantastic. That Durham provides so much opportunity to make your own passions something serious, be it sports, clubs or academics, is one of the key defining principles of that much fabled 'Durham Difference.' Eurovision Society provided that outlet for me and now I'm working as a Eurovision journalist and becoming heavily involved in the real life show itself. What inspired you to sign up as an alumni volunteer? I was inspired to be an alumni volunteer because I still feel an interest in the workings of Durham and I certainly feel I gained a fabulous knowledge of the city in my five years there. I have been involved in some of the most eclectic combinations of student life, and the highlights are as varied as Monday night darts to fine dining at formals and serious meetings through some of my sabbatical work for DSU. I still now, four years later, bring back my time at Durham for things like job applications and interviews and knowing how much Durham shaped me I'd love to keep up that connection.
