What was the most valuable lesson you learnt whilst at Durham?Durham gave me the opportunity to be part of the Durham family. I did my Master’s at 40, the birthday present to myself. The students’ level of commitment and dedication to their studies was inspiring. My tutors felt approachable and encouraging and our small class discussions made me feel that I was part of a team striving for truth and excellence. Learning never ceases. What inspired you to sign up as an alumni volunteer?I am very proud of having completed my MA in Durham’s English department. The university, the cobbled streets, the cafes, the walking in the woods or by the river and over the bridges, the people I met and friendships I have made during my year there all add up to a unique and precious student experience. As a foreign student I want to facilitate as many top students as possible to come to Durham and see for themselves what education in a world class university is all about.
In Durham, you matter. What are your fondest memories of Durham?Getting up before sunrise to walk down to the river for our rowing session; the stillness, the quiet, the anticipation. Seeing the first beams of light caress the rowers, the water, the trees, the smooth wooden shells. Perfection.
