Ways to get involved

There are many ways for you to get involved with the University in the years after you leave, depending on the time you have available and your interests. Becoming an alumni volunteer can be rewarding and stimulating. It can be an excellent way to re-engage with Durham, catch-up with old friends and network with fellow graduates - professionally and socially!

Guest Speaker

UK and International

Alumni often come back to campus to deliver a guest lecture to current students, or to talk about their careers. Career talks offer students a unique insight into the industry in which they are interested, and the opportunity to learn more about the skills they need to develop in order to work in the industry.
We also organise a programme of Professional Networking events every year which are targeted at alumni in specific industries and sectors. These events usually feature industry experts giving talks on their personal journey or taking part in panel discussions on a pertinent subject.
If you feel that you would like to be involved in speaking either to students or fellow alumni, please email alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk.

Alumni Chapters

UK and International

We aim to create a dynamic, engaged and thriving alumni community and Alumni Chapters are at the heart of this. Our Alumni Chapters are self-sustaining volunteer-led groups who provide opportunties to promote the relationship between alumni, supporters and the University, and also promote interaction among alumni and supporters. They are an invaluable resource serving a global network of over 190,000 alumni and supporters.

Chapters are formed on the basis of common, geographical, professional, industry, academic or other expressed areas of interest. As well as providing a platform for alumni and supporters to maintain ad lifelong relationship to Durham, Chapters are committed to sharing connections, opportunities, information and advice with each other.

If you are interested in volunteering with an Alumni Chapter, please email alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk.

Student Recruitment

International

Alumni can play an important role in the University's international student recruitment efforts by sharing your Durham experience with prospective and incoming students. You can do this through a range of activities such as attending a major education fairs,  delivering talks and presentations, sharing a testimonial and hosting pre-departure events to help students in the decision making process.

If you would like to get involved or for more information on how alumni can help with student recruitment, please contact alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk.

Hospitality Volunteer

UK and International

We are always looking for venues which we can utilise for alumni gatherings. If you have access to a unique and interesting venue, or can offer free venue space in a major city, we would be delighted to work with you.
We are also looking to create unique ‘Access’ events, offering students and alumni an one-off opportunity to see behind the scenes of interesting companies or attractions. These could be tours of major businesses, museums, art galleries, studios etc.
By helping to host these events, you will gain publicity for the venue or service you are providing, and will have the opportunity to network and  catch up with fellow Durham alumni. If this is something that you would be able to offer, please contact us at alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk.
