There are many ways for you to get involved with the University in the years after you leave, depending on the time you have available and your interests. Becoming an alumni volunteer can be rewarding and stimulating. It can be an excellent way to re-engage with Durham, catch-up with old friends and network with fellow graduates - professionally and socially!
Alumni often come back to campus to deliver a guest lecture to current students, or to talk about their careers. Career talks offer students a unique insight into the industry in which they are interested, and the opportunity to learn more about the skills they need to develop in order to work in the industry. We also organise a programme of Professional Networking events every year which are targeted at alumni in specific industries and sectors. These events usually feature industry experts giving talks on their personal journey or taking part in panel discussions on a pertinent subject. If you feel that you would like to be involved in speaking either to students or fellow alumni, please email alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk.
We aim to create a dynamic, engaged and thriving alumni community and Alumni Chapters are at the heart of this. Our Alumni Chapters are self-sustaining volunteer-led groups who provide opportunties to promote the relationship between alumni, supporters and the University, and also promote interaction among alumni and supporters. They are an invaluable resource serving a global network of over 190,000 alumni and supporters.Chapters are formed on the basis of common, geographical, professional, industry, academic or other expressed areas of interest. As well as providing a platform for alumni and supporters to maintain ad lifelong relationship to Durham, Chapters are committed to sharing connections, opportunities, information and advice with each other. If you are interested in volunteering with an Alumni Chapter, please email alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk.
An internship or placement equips students with the skills, insight and experience to boost their employability and increase their confidence. By offering an internship or work placement, you could help them develop transferable skills and grow their network for the future. If you are interested in offering an internship or placement to Durham students, get in touch at alumni.volunteer@durham.ac.uk.
