Durham University warmly invites its Indian alumni, research and industry partners, colleagues, prospective students and their families to join Durham University Professors and staff in an event celebrating the partnerships and collaboration between Durham University UK and India.
Durham University UK has long-standing and meaningful connections across India and in 2020 the University invested in the Durham India Office, a first of its kind for Durham. India is a focus or site of research for a significant number of Durham academics who engage with international research tackling global challenges alongside India’s most prominent researchers and institutions.
Please come along and hear about our Archaeology department’s engagement in cultural heritage with MS Baroda; Anthropology’s work in Health and Medical Humanities across India and the development of an Indian Law Centre and much more.
There is also a keynote speech from the renowned and celebrated Indian author Pranay Lal who will talk about his work as a biochemist, writer and environmental campaigner.

Keynote Speech: Pranay Lal, introduced by Professor Andrew Russell
Pranay Lal is a trained biochemist, writer and environmental campaigner. He previously worked for the non-profit International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. He has been a caricaturist for newspapers, an animator for an advertising agency and now works on climate change and planetary health. He has written two award-winning books - Indica: A Deep Natural History of the Indian Subcontinent, and Invisible Empire: The Natural History of Viruses. He lives in Delhi with his wife, the author Vandana Singh-Lal.
