It's Thursday, time for our Week 1 - Feisty 50 Distance Challenge!

Hope you are all feeling strong after Monday’s bodyweight workout! Today, we are going to work on our aerobic capacity with a distance challenge.

Week 1 – Cardio
See how far you can get in 30 minutes. As we are in lockdown in January and we are all at various stages of ability and fitness there are quite a few options for completing today's challenge.

Remember this is a challenge and not a competition. The goal is to see how far we can move as a community

Option 1 – Running
   1. If you haven’t already done so, download the Strava app onto your smartphone and join the Durham University Alumni & Friends Club.
   2. Once in the Group, join the Thursday 14 January Feisty 50 Week 1 Distance Challenge club event.
   3. After you’ve warmed up and you are ready to start, set your Strava app away, start moving, and see how much distance you can cover in 30 minutes.
   4. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the time.
   5. Upload your score here when you’re done.
   6. Screenshot your Strava or take a photo on your route and tag @DurhamAlumni on Instagram
   7. Remember to exercise within your ability and follow your local social distancing guidelines

Option 2 – Cycling
   1. Download the Strava app onto your smartphone and join the Durham University Alumni & Friends Club.
   2. Once in the Group, join the Thursday 14 January Feisty 50 Week 1 Distance Challenge (cycle)

Option 3 – Walking
   1. Set your Strava or other exercise tracking app away, start moving, and see how much distance you cover in 30 minutes. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the time. Upload your score here when you’re done. Do still join the Durham University Alumni & Friends Club!
   2. Unfortunately, Strava Club Events only work for running and cycling, but please still participate and submit a score with the form. Don’t let this be an excuse not to do it!
   3. You can still take a photograph while you’re out and tag @DurhamAlumni on Instagram
   4. Remember to exercise within your ability and follow your local social distancing guidelines

Option 4 – Other Options (and no excuses!)
   1. If running, cycling or walking outside is not possible. Here are some other ways you can participate:
      a. Run/jog/walk on a treadmill or elliptical machine for 30 mins if you’re lucky to have one at home, just note the distance you cover.
      b. Stationary bike/Peloton/echo bike or turbo trainer.
      c. Row on a rowing machine (or outside even, if you can safely access these facilities under local COVID restrictions)
      d. Swim (only if you can safely do so)
      e. Ski Erg
      f. Running on the spot for 30 mins (upload the number of steps you took)
      g. Anything else that involves 30 minutes of movement, where ideally you are covering some distance. Think of Sir Tom Moore doing laps in his garden, or the Durham students from Trevs who ran a marathon in a College corridor.
   2. Take a photo while you're working out or photograph your machine's display showing your 30 minutes of activity and the distance you covered and tag @DurhamAlumni on Instagram.
   3. Use this form to upload your score if you are able to track your distance. If you are doing an activity where you are not able to track your distance i.e. running on the spot, use THIS form to upload your score.
